Ooh, an extra day’s content, courtesy of Charlotte. That I should probably be saving for when I run out of piccies from the Tasmania trip. Which I won’t save because Sunday feels like meme day not photo day
The rules are:
List one fact, word or tidbit that is somehow relevant to your life for each letter of your first or middle name. You can theme it to your blog or make it general. Then tag one person for each letter of your name.
Easy.
K is for know, which my mother says was my favourite word when I was toddler, after Why? (always with the question mark). How I knew when I was two or three, I don’t know. Today, it is still one of the words that issues from my mouth too often but without the weight of a toddler’s supreme confidence behind it.
E is for Elizabeth, my middle name, a name which has passed down through the generations on the paternal and maternal sides of my family and which creates a link between me and those women who have gone before and those women still to come (because it is also my niece’s middle name).
R is for (no, not reading although I do that quite a lot) risotto, the perfect meal to cook when I require a little contemplative time while still getting on with the business of living. Recently, I’ve fallen in love with roast baby beet risotto for the taste and vibrant colour of the finished dish. D seems to like it,too despite the absence of anything that used to have legs as an ingredient.
R is for routine, to which I am a slave. I’d love to have more spontaneity in my life but my brain seems to go into minor meltdown when it is challenged by a surprise or a slight change to my daily comings and goings.
Y is for yes, which I find myself saying far too easily (although D would probably disagree). Quite often that leads to disruption in my routine. More often it leads to feelings of resentment and put-upon-ness, which are entirely my fault for, after all, I said yes to the request for help, information, a little of my time. For such a short word, no is incredibly hard for me to say but I should learn how to say it more easily and without feeling like the approval of others is contingent on a positive response from me.
N is for ‘net-addicted or so my equally net-addicted husband says. Mind you, he is trying to shame me into walking away from the computer so he can get his fix. I really don’t disagree with him. I am addicted to the ‘net. Working full-time in a non-net enabled workplace hasn’t yet managed to cure the addiction. A week away from the ‘net didn’t cure the addiction either. Obviously, I’m a lost cause and stronger measures are necessary to break this latest addiction. If I want to break it. I think we’ll just get broadband instead. And a wireless home network.
Now I’m thinking I should have themed this meme. Perhaps a seven-letter word I’d love to play in Scrabble (Scrabulous) for each of the letters in my name. Perhaps that’s for next week because I don’t recall ever seeing a rule that states you can’t play the same meme twice.
No tags but feel free to play along.

Mmmm risotto — I have yet to find a recipe that rivals the summer squash and wild mushroom risotto I used to order at a upscale restaurant.
Perhaps, being the culinary genius that you are, you might recommend one that would “be to die for”?
All the recipes I’ve found out are tasteless and not the comfort food I expect risotto to be… I’ve actually given up, so if you could renew my zeal…
I think broadband/wireless is the way to go : )
Broadband & wireless is the way to go. I have no idea how we used to manage back in the bad old days before we got it.
Michael: Start with a good foundation recipe, a good risotto rice — I currently use arborio (but are there are better out there, I just can’t justify the expense at the moment) — and a good stock and add the flavourings to your taste. A slurp of good white wine before adding the stock is also good. I tend to make it up as I go, remembering not to overload the risotto with too many textures and flavours. The beetroot one is probably the simplest I make, as well as the tastiest.
Kristine and Ms Make Tea: D and I are currently in “discussions” about this very issue. I want to wait until “naked” adsl is available here (by the end of the year); D is all for immediate measures. We shall see.
Yes to risotto (I’ve yet to try a baby beet one) and to wireless! No more husband/wife arguments about whose turn it is on the computer.
About learning to say no, that’s important. I’ve struggled with it but am getting better – I have my antenna out for people who ask me to do things I don’t want to do. I know who they are and I’m wary of them.
Looks like I’ll be posting the recipe for the baby beet risotto (sometime when I have the energy to remember it).
Charlotte it’s such a simple word, laden with so much emotional baggage. I find it far too easy to say no to the people I should be saying yes to and far too difficult to say no when it matters. One day.
